Antitrust law and the U.S. agencies that enforce it have long lived in the shadows of happy geekdom: some 2,000 lawyers and economists, mostly based in D.C., who got excited when dinner conversation veered toward Herfindahl-Hirschman Indices and Upward Pricing Pressure tests. Then, suddenly, things changed. Antitrust enforcement trends became front page news and agency leaders became DC celebrities. This presentation will offer thoughts on what happened, and why, from the perspective of a local practitioner.
